Special Guest - Esme Boone

Esme Boone
An ex-pat Aussie who has lived in Canada since 1970, Esme plays traditional Celtic Harp music, and sings Scots Gaelic.  She has participated in the National Mod in Scotland [a competition in the Gaelic culture] for voice with harp accompaniment; that same year, she also played harp with the winning Lewis Harpers Ensemble.

As a solo performer or as the other half of a duet called Bracken, she has played at the Trout Forest Festival [North Western Ontario, Canada], and the Winnipeg St. David’s Society [Welsh] as well as house concerts and numerous ceilidhs.

Esme spent four summers in the Scottish Hebrides doing 5-day Harp Schools with two of Scotland’s leading Folk Harpists [Alison Kinnaird and Wendy Stewart]. While in Scotland, the same year as the Mod, she made a Bohemian harp that she is hoping to bring to Australia with her.

Esme was very active in the Winnipeg School of Celtic Studies for about 15 years, until it folded with the death of its founder.  This is where she learnt a lot of the Hebridean songs and culture, as there is a strong Gaelic connection around Winnipeg.

Celtic Lap-Harp Making Workshops:  Esme combines her visual art [she has a degree in Fine Arts] and musical skills in these workshops using kits designed by Dennis Waring in the US.
