Jack Pledge
Jack Pledge is an award winning Blue Mountains based singer songwriter from San Antonio, Texas in the USA who has been living and working in Australia for the last 25 years. He came to Oz following a 13 year stint in Canada where he worked in a variety of Country, Country/Rock, and Rock and Roll bands including various incarnations of his own band, 3 years with Jerry Palmer’s Lovin’ Country (working with Jerry, Carol Baker, Gary Buck, and the late, Ray Smith), 4 years with the highly acclaimed Country Show Band, Sundown. He has also appeared with numerous American artists including Charlie Pride, Ray Smith and Jerry Jeff Walker.
In Australia Jack's played lead guitar for many artists including Lucky Starr, Jimmy Little, Anne Kirkpatrick, Roland Storm, Reg Lindsay, Lonnie Lee, as well as singing and fronting various country and R&R bands around Sydney. He is probably best known in Country circles as leader of the band for the Anne Conway Show in the Grace Bros store in Tamworth during the Country Music Festival for more than a decade and as been a regular performer and band leader at the Mildura Country Music Festival.
As a songwriter and recording artist, his songs have been recorded by numerous people: Ian B. MacLeod, Lee Brittain, the late Alan Hawking, and James Blundell, and he has two fine recordings of his own: Going South (released in 2006) and in 2008, An Unsuccessful Outlaw (which includes the TSA award winning song, Where You Gonna Sleep Tonight).
With his rich voice, strong, unique guitar style, he's an an old fashioned troubadour with roots in not only folk and country, but rock and jazz and his repertoire includes artists as diverse as The Beatles, Mark Knopfler, James Taylor, Roy Orbison, Steely Dan, The Eagles and, of course, Jimmy Buffet. Whether playing solo acoustic guitar, or blazing electric in front of a band he can mesmerise an audience with his stories and songs.
